Fitness Training
Ashland Fire Department staff conduct regular fitness training that incorporate physical motions that simulate movements needed in emergency situations. Staff train with the equipment they use by carrying hose lines up the training tower stairs and by doing different exercises while wearing air packs.

Great Lakes testing were also on hand to test all of the department’s ground ladders. Each ladder is tested annually to ensure that all ladders are safe to use. The ladders are tested with Five Hundred pounds placed mid span. The severe bow in the ladders returns to normal once the weight is removed.

Up North Dogs
That Ashland Fire Department would like to thank Ralph Brzezinski and McDonald’s for allowing the fire department the use of a vacant building for training. Mr. Brzezinski is the owner of the local McDonald’s restaurant. Mr. Brzezinski recently purchased the vacant building adjacent to McDonald’s that formerly housed the Up North Dogs restaurant. The building was scheduled to be demolished to make room for more parking and an upgrade to the McDonald’s drive through. Prior to being demolished the fire department was able to utilize the building to train in search and rescue techniques as well as roof top ventilation techniques. These training opportunities are vital to maintaining the high skill level required by our firefighters. Opportunities to train with donated structures are infrequent and appreciated. Thank you again Mr. Brzezinski and McDonald’s for this opportunity.
